MAU (UP): Tension continued to prevail
in this town on Sunday as unidentified persons allegedly tried to set ablaze a
mosque, officials said.
The incident occurred in Muhammadpura area
but timely intervention by police foiled the bid to set the mosque
ablaze.
An FIR has been registered in this connection, they
said.
Meanwhile, some office-bearers of the city bar association, who
had threatened to immolate themselves on Monday if the killers were not
arrested, continued to stick to their stand despite requests by the
administration.
Security personnel maintained tight vigil in the city
where violence had flared up after the killing of a student Ankit Kumar Soni on
August 2.
Police had registered an FIR against two unidentified
persons in connection with the killing but no arrests had been
made.
Twenty people were killed and scores injured in riots in the
town last year during the Dussehra festival.
